The Sunday Classic

Leaving from Sierra Cafe in Botany Town Centre we head left at the lights onto Chapel Road. Straight along Chapel to Manukau we head right onto Hollyford Drive and then right again onto Redoubt Road. Continuing along Redoubt as it turns into Mill road up and down the hills to the roundabout at Alfriston Hall where we have a regroup and breather for a minute or two. If numbers and interest is there we can go through the Hunua Gorge from this point.

From here we move down Mill road till and turn left onto Hamlin road which takes us away from the busy trafic and around the back of the Ardmore Aerodome. When we reach the end of Hamlin road we have a small breather and regroup again before turning left onto Papakura-Clevedon road for a sometimes very speedy 8km to Clevedon. Just before we reach Clevedon there is a small sprint which some riders contest (see finish lines) and then we stop for another regroup just after the town.

Moving off its onto Twilight road where the climbers start to get excited for the race to the top of the windy hill, mean while everyone else rides their own pace and we have a small regroup at the top before heading off towards Botany again. Along the bottom flat of Twilight road there has developed another sprint (see finish lines) for those that have recovered from the climb.

Turning right onto Brookby Road and then left onto Whitford Park Road the bunch heads towards the final climb of the day which is a left turn onto Sandstone Road. Once again the climbers in the group get excited and the normal race to the top unfolds (see finish lines). After a regroup the bunch cuises back down Ormiston road, right at the roundabout onto Murphys/Stancombe Road, right onto Baverstock Road, right onto Middlefield Road, then left onto Kilkenny Drive, and right at the lights back onto Chapel Road and to Sierra Cafe for a well earned Coffee around 10.15-10.30am. The normal duration for the ride is 2 - 2.5 hours, with an average speed of 27-29km/hr.
