How the Botany Bunch was born.

The Botany Bunch started life as the Pack n Pedal (Botany) shop ride. The inaugural spin took place in Oct 2004 a week before daylight savings kicked in for summer.

Matt Hinton,  who was an employee of Pack n Pedal at the time, was the ONLY person who showed up. His boss probably threatend to fire him if he didn't. We still don't really know whether he actually rode that day.

The following week was a lot better. The clocks had just been set back an hour so the 8.00 am start registered as 9.00 am on everyone's body clocks.

The group has since grown both in size and "stature" over the past year and a half. It ceased its association with Pack n Pedal when the shop went into receiveship in 2005 and we are no longer associated with any bike shop. We are loyal only to a good cup of coffee (or Protein Shake) after a hard ride.

Our Sunday rides now attract between 15 and 25 riders on regular basis. We average around 28kph but we have a "no drop" policy. If anyone gets left behind, we have designated waiting zones to enable the bunch to regroup. Our aim is to arrive at the Cafe (Sierra - Botany) together.

New members are always welcome, all you need is a roadbike, helmet, and a basic fitness level. To join our mailing list click here.
